The 42-year-old from Sydney, who lost his legs after being hit by a car at the age of 16, is widely considered one of the best wheelchair tennis players ever having won every major tournament in the sport and a total of six Paralympic medals, including a gold in the men's singles at Sydney 2000.

The 2013 Australian Wheelchair Tennis Tour is due to get underway in Brisbane next month and Hall claimed he is delighted to be an ambassador.

"If I look at it from a player's perspective the Australian Wheelchair Tennis Tour is a great opportunity regardless of whether you are a local, interstate or overseas player," said Hall, who has now retired at elite level.

"It's a great circuit.

"My role during the summer will consist of promoting the events any way that I can.

"Keep an eye out for Adam Kellerman of Sydney whose ranking jumped 50 spots to number 24 in the world; he is a player on the rise.

"Also look out for Keegan Oh Chee, another young Sydney player with lots of potential.

"He'll be one to look out for in the coming years."


Hall, who dominated wheelchair tennis across the globe for nearly a decade as he was ranked number one in singles for six years between 1995 and 2005, also revealed that his role as ambassador of the Australia Wheelchair Tennis Tour will extend beyond the summer.

"Next year I'll be working with the able-bodied coaching courses," he said.

"I'll be teaching the coaches the nuances of wheelchair tennis, going into rehabilitation centres talking about wheelchair tennis being a viable and fun option for newly injured people and continuing to mentor our young players."

The opening competition of the tour will be the Queensland Open in Brisbane from January 2 until 5 January before it moves for the Adelaide Wheelchair Open from January 6 until 9.

The tour will then go to the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre for the Sydney International Wheelchair Open from January 11 until 15 before the Melbourne Open from January 17 until 20.

It will conclude with the prestigious Australian Open at Melbourne Park from January 23 until 26.

It is the second time this new-look tour will roll into action.

Tennis Australia partnered with the Australian Paralympic Committee (APC) to launch the tour in late 2011, which is designed to attract the world's best players who are chasing a valuable prize purse and points.
