trespass glasgow 2014February 26 - Glasgow 2014 has today named local outdoor clothing firm Trespass as the provider of Commonwealth Games uniforms for its workforce and the army of up to 15,000 volunteers.

As part of its deal as the Official Casual Uniform Provider, the Glaswegian brand will also design, manufacture and supply the outfits to be worn by those accompanying the Queen's Baton Relay as it moves through the Commonwealth ahead of the Games.

"I am delighted to welcome such a well-known brand and great Glasgow success story into the Glasgow 2014 family of sponsors," Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg said.

"We were hugely impressed not just with the quality of the designs that Trespass presented us with but with their passion and enthusiasm to be part of our journey.

"Trespass is well known for both high quality and hard wearing clothing which is the perfect combination needed for the uniforms which will be worn by volunteers, workforce and Queen's Baton Relay teams."

The company started in 1938 in Glasgow as Jacobs and Turner Limited, before being acquired by the Khushi family in the 1960s.

Today the firm is managed by brothers Afzal and Akmal Khushi who established the Trespass brand in 1984, meaning it will also celebrate its 30th anniversary in the same year that the Commonwealth Games take place.

"The company will mark a major milestone in its history next year when it celebrates 30 years as the Trespass brand and it's fantastic that by supporting the Games, the year 2014 will be a double celebration for them," Grevemberg added.

Trespass currently has 140 stores in the United Kingdom, as well as selling its clothing and equipment worldwide, and a further 40 shops are set to open in the next year.

"We are fiercely proud of our roots and are incredibly excited to play our part in making the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games a resounding success," Trespass co-founder Afzal said.

"The ethos at the heart of our brand is access for all – we aim to provide top performance clothing that is affordable for everyone.

"In that spirit we have designed a range of sportswear, for activities including running, cycling and swimming, to encourage people to lead a more active lifestyle.

"The year 2014 was always going to be special for us since we will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Trespass brand.

"We can think of no better way to mark this landmark date in our history than to help show the world what our home city has to offer."

Scotland's Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport Shona Robison also welcomed the naming of the local brand.

"It's fantastic to see another successful Scottish business playing such a key role in supplying the Games," she said.

"Trespass is one that has grown from being a local business in Glasgow to a worldwide brand, but have not forgotten their roots.

"The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are continuing to bring real benefit to businesses in Scotland and I'd like to welcome Trespass to the Games family."

Trespass joins the Glasgow 2014 family of official sponsors alongside companies such as Longines, Emirates, Ernst & Young, Atos, Dell, Toshiba TEC and AG Barr.
