Fukumi, fifth at last year's London Olympics, revealed she will become a coach at her alma mater Tsukuba University, as well as work as doing some work with Russia's national team. 

Fukumi also won silver medals at the World Championships in 2010 and 2011, as well as in the Asian Games at Guangzhou in 2010.

But she is perhaps best known for as a a second-year high school student in 2002 ending the winning streak of Japanese judo legend Ryoko Tani at 65 bouts.

"Because of the challenge of getting past Tani, I was able to develop to an amazing degree," Fukumi said at a press conference in Chiba Prefecture.
