August 19 - TREN SONG 2013Trentino 2013 has invited musicians and singers of the countries belonging to the International University Sports Federation (FISU), to submit their musical applications for the "Official Song" of the Winter Universiade.

Musicians currently attending university in any of the more than 160 countries affiliated to FISU can enter the competition which will see the eventual winner's composition become the "official hymn" of the Games and will be performed at the Opening Ceremony on December 11, in the northern Italian region.

Entries can be no longer than four minutes and 30 seconds long, and the winning song will be chosen by a panel of judges headed by veteran Italian lyricist and song-writer Giulio Rapetti - also known as Mogul - and also includes Charles Salvaterra, a musician and professor of modern music, Rolando Lucchi, composer and director of the Music School of Trento and Carlo Pedrazzoli, musician and director of the School of Music and Alto Garda, along with three student representatives of the University of Trento.

The songs will be judged on artistic quality, originality, immediacy of message and their links to the main themes of the Games regarding youth, sports and international cooperation, according to Trentino 2013 organisers.

"This is a brand new promotion but certainly interesting for Trentino," said Paolo Bouquet vice-president of the Organising Committee.

"The competition is open to individual artists or those in groups, of which at least one member must be officially enrolled in a university legally recognised."

Compositions are to be sent on CD in a sealed envelope to the School of Music The Diapason, Via G. Baptist Trener 16, 38121 Trento, by September 30.

A total of 13 sports will be contested across seven venues during the 26th staging of the Winter Universiade which was last held in Italy in 2007, when 2006 Winter Olympic Games' host Turin staged the Games.

Around 3,000 athletes from over 50 countries are expected to participate.
