The Parade will see Canadian athletes who starred at both the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games take part in the event which due to start on 8th Avenue at 10th Street and finish at Olympic Plaza on Macleod Trail.

The parade will begin at 11.30am UTC and make its way along the route before culminating at the Olympic Plaza where there will be live entertainment, on stage interviews and the chance to get autographs from the athletes.

That will be followed by the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame Gala Dinner and Induction Ceremony at the Saddledome indoor arena, which will see the likes of Calgary native Kyle Shewfelt honoured for his achievements in gymnastics, including becoming the first Canadian to win an Olympic medal in artistic gymnastics when he secured gold at Athens 2004.

Proceeds from the gala will go to the Canadian Olympic Foundation and a legacy coaching programme in Calgary to support the next generation of Olympians.

"We worked with the city, and the Mayor's office, and talked to officials and they all told us 8th Avenue is the place to be," said COC chief marketing officer Derek Kent, who is urging fans to get out and support the achievements of Canadian athletes.

"As everybody in Calgary knows, it's a great location and it culminates in a party at Olympic Plaza.

It's a great Olympic city.

"We're hopeful that we'll have 10 people deep in some areas."

The parade in Calgary will be the culmination of a three-day Celebration of Excellence Tour by Olympic and Paralympic athletes which is due start in Ottawa on June 4 before heading to Edmonton on June 5.

Athletes will be honoured over the three days on the Heroes' Tour which includes community outreach and public appearances at schools and hospitals across the three cities.

Canada finished third on the Winter Olympic medal table in Sochi with a total of 25 medals, including 10 gold, while the Paralympians also came third on the overall standings with 16 medals, seven of them gold.
