The Canadian team finished third in the Sochi medals table with a total of 16 - seven gold, two silver and seven bronze.

"There were so many outstanding performances in Sochi and plenty of deserving athletes and coaches for dissertation awards," said Gaétan Tardif, President of the Canadian Paralympic Committee.

"I'd like to congratulate today's recipients as well as the entire Canadian Paralympic team for an outstanding performance in Sochi."

The Best Games Debut award went to Mac Marcoux and guide Robin Fémy, who won one gold and two bronze medals in the visually impaired Alpine skiing.

The Canadian wheelchair curling team claimed the Best Team Performance award after winning their third consecutive gold medal and setting records in the process for the most points and biggest margin of victory.

Best Male Athlete was Brian McKeever, Canada's most decorated athlete at the Games, and guides Erik Carleton and Graham Nishikawa, who combined to win three gold medals in the visually-impaired Nordic skiing.

Ina Forrest won Best Female Athlete after helping Canada win the wheelchair curling gold medal.

The two other awards, Para-Development Coach and Tim Frick Paralympic Coach Excellence, went to Mari Ellery, who has been coaching Parasport for more than 30 years, and Jean Sébastien Labrie, head coach of the Canadian Para-Alpine ski team, respectively.

"The commitment, dedication and spirit shown by our athletes in Sochi are an inspiration to all Canadians," said Canadian Minister for Sport Bal Gosal.

"We are proud to support the Canadian Paralympic Team and celebrate its remarkable achievements."
