Five athletes have been nominated for July's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Allianz Athlete of the Month award, including Britain's wheelchair tennis star Gordon Reid and Ukrainian wheelchair fencer Anton Datsko.

The other three athletes to be shortlisted are American triathlete Grace Norman and British athletics pair Richard Whitehead and Libby Clegg.

The nominations are compiled from submissions by National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) and International Federations.

Reid claimed his second career Grand Slam title in July after winning the inaugural men’s singles event at Wimbledon.

The Scot defeated Sweden’s Stefan Olsson 6-1, 6-4 in the final and also won the doubles event with compatriot Alfie Hewett.

Last month, after two years, the women’s PT4 triathlon class crowned a new world champion in Norman.

She won her event at the 2016 International Triathlon Union (ITU) Rotterdam Para Triathlon World Championships.

She matched the pace of Great Britain’s Lauren Steadman in the swim, the defending champion's key strength, and Norman took advantage when her rival crashed in the bike segment.

Datsko won gold in both the foil and sabre men’s category B events at the International Wheelchair and Amputee (IWAS) Wheelchair Fencing World Cup in Warsaw in Poland.

He knocked out home favourite and number one Adrian Castro in the early rounds.

Whitehead smashed his own world record for the second time in two weeks, winning the 200 metres T42 in 23.03sec at the IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final at the Olympic Stadium in London.

Clegg, in only her third 200m T11 race with new guide Chris Clarke, knocked 0.23 seconds off the world record set by Brazil’s Terezinha Guilhermina four years ago, winning in 24.44.

So far this year, winners include Colombian swimmer Carlos Serrano, Russian wheelchair curler Andrey Smirnov and British wheelchair racer Shelby Watson.
