Yuki Kobayashi won a second gold medal of the Asian Winter Games here on a day of Japanese success in cross-country skiing.

It came as action resumed after a break yesterday in the Shirahatayama Open Stadium.

Kobayashi proved too strong for the rest in the field in the five kilometres classical event to add to her 10km freestyle win on Tuesday (February 21).

The 29-year-old finished in 14min 56.10sec to edge Yelena Kolomina of Kazakhstan by 6.7sec.

“I went all out for it right from the start," the winner said.

"I am simply delighted.

“I have been skiing here determined to deliver results to make up for not making the World Championships.”

More home success followed for Akira Lenting in the 10km men's classical competition.

Lenting, whose mother is Japanese and father is from New Zealand, clocked 25:15.6 to finish more than 16.9 clear of South Korea’s classical sprint champion Magnus Kim.

It followed his bronze medal in the 15km freestyle event.

Bronze this time around went to Japan’s Kohei Shimizu, who clocked 25:39.00.
