New Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) President Ben Nunoo Mensah is taking steps to revive the All African Sports Awards.

A "successful" meeting was held with Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) President Lassana Palenfo in Abidjan about the project.

A continental-wide sporting event was first held in Ghana in November 2007 at the Banquet Hall of the State House.

But the event did not continue thereafter.

Mensah, elected President in March to replace Francis Dodoo, had already vowed to revive the ceremony when speaking at the ANOCA Congress in Djibouti in May.

Palenfo and others have now expressed their support.

Nominees could be taken from across Africa.

Sporting disciplines honoured at the event are set to include athletics, badminton, beach volleyball, table tennis, weightlifting and volleyball.

It is envisaged that a maiden edition could take place in Accra in September 2018.
