The International University Sports Federation (FISU) Summer Universiade Supervision Committee (CSU) has today met with the newly-appointed Extraordinary Commissioner for Naples 2019, Luisa Latella, as preparations continue for next year’s event.

As chair, FISU first vice-president Leonz Eder led the Supervision Commission delegation at the meeting in the host city.

Italian University Sports Federation President Lorenzo Lentini and Italian National Olympic Committee vice-president Raffaele Pagnozzi were also present along with Raimondo Pasquino, head of Agenzia Regionale Universiadi, the local body in charge of the preparations for the Universiade.

The meeting was followed by an official lunch.

"Afterwards, we will be in contact with this Commissioner in order to facilitate all the tenders to reorganise the Organising Committee and to make the things go smoother than now," a FISU spokesperson told insidethegames.

"So that was the main purpose."

Prior to the meeting, the CSU held an internal gathering and the Organising Committee delivered a series of presentations.

The CSU also visited the venues in the area around Mostra d'Oltremare, where the Organising Committee’s headquarters are currently based.

Diving and judo competitions are both scheduled to be held there.

Among the other venues looked at were the 60,240-capacity Stadio San Paolo, which is the home of Napoli football club and set to host the Naples 2019 Opening Ceremony and athletics action.

The Piscina Scandone and the PalaBarbuto sports arena were also inspected.

The visit is due to conclude tomorrow.

Latella was appointed as the Extraordinary Commissioner for Naples 2019 last week.

She is the current prefect of the province of Catanzaro but will leave this role to head preparations for the student event.

The move was proposed by Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni.

An agreement was signed by Naples 2019 President Vincenzo De Luca, who claims Latella has the experience required to deliver the Universiade.

Naples was officially confirmed as the host in May 2016, following a re-opened bidding process after Brasília withdrew in January 2015.

The Brazilian capital was unable to meet financial commitments.

Given the short timeframe to prepare for the Universiade, completion of competition venues is expected to be tight.

FISU President Oleg Matytsin and secretary general Eric Saintrond have vowed to help Naples 2019 invest in "efficient and creative" solutions to meet the challenge of hosting.
