PaySwitch Company Ltd have given the Ghana Olympic Committee funding to support Akwasi Frimpong in Pyeongchang ©GOC

The Ghanaian Olympic Committee (GOC) were presented a cheque for GHS100,000 (£15,770/$22,272/€17,871) by PaySwitch Company Ltd, to support Akwasi Frimpong who is set to be the country's sole representative at this month's Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

The cheque was presented by PaySwitch chairman and chief executive Kojo Choi, who attended school in Ghana.

Choi promised to support the GOC in initiatives that promote sport and peace for the success of young Ghanaians.

South Korea's Ghanian ambassador He Kim Sungsoo was also present at the ceremony at the GOC office in Accra, and spoke about the sporting relationship between the two countries.

He praised skeleton slider Frimpong for qualifying for the Games and for making Africa and Ghana proud.

Jerry Shaib Ahmed, Ghana's Chef de Mission for Pyeongchang 2018, thanked PaySwitch, which runs an alternative payment service, for their donation and promised to inspire Frimpong to make a good impression at the Games.

Frimpong will be Ghana's second-ever Winter Olympics participant after skier Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong, who competed at Vancouver 2010.

Pyeongchang 2018 will open on Friday (February 9).
