The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) held a meeting which saw the creation of continental federations for Africa and a combined body for the Caribbean, Central and South America.

The Pan-American Lacrosse Association and the African Association of Lacrosse will now be tasked with organising championships and developing the sport in their territories.

Storm Trentham, the FIL member for Kenya, said: "This meeting has been hugely beneficial and historical in creating the new continental federations.

"I'm proud to be representing Kenya Lacrosse and helping grow the sport in Africa.

"It's a very exciting time for our sport worldwide."

FIL Development Committee director Bob DeMarco also expressed his excitement at the new federations.

"This is a really exciting time for international lacrosse as we are now providing more centralised governance through the addition of these two new continental federations," he said.

"The commitment and energy felt in this meeting is representative of what is happening worldwide for the sport of lacrosse."

Representatives from various countries, including Argentina, Chile, Jamaica and Uganda, also attended the meeting to provide reports on the development of lacrosse in their countries.

FIL claim lacrosse has grown significantly in recent times with 60 nations now represented by the world governing body.
