The Brazilians, calling on a number of those players who helped them take bronze at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, secured overall victory with an 8-3 win over a strong German team at the Baltiska Hallen in the Swedish city.

"This is a very special moment," said Brazil's Leomon Moreno, who earned the quadrennial tournament's top scorer trophy with 44 goals.

"All the time we believed we could win.

"We came to this competition believing for ourselves that we could do it again, based on our structure, our training, all the people involved, putting their dreams into this tournament and reaching their goal."

Germany's Stefan Hawranke added: "I think it was a fantastic game for us.

"We are a very young team, I think the youngest team here in this tournament, and it was a big chance to play the final in the World Championships."

Russia's women won their first world title after a tense 4-3 win over Paralympic champions Turkey, improving on the silver they won four years ago in Espoo, Finland.

Turkey, 2-0 down after 12 minutes, drew level in the second half thanks to goals from Sevda Altunoluk, and pulled the score back to 3-3 after Anna Schevchenko had scored a penalty to put the Russians ahead.

But when Arina Gerasimova fired Russia ahead for a third time, Turkey had no answer.

Altunoluk had the consolation of taking the women's top scorer trophy with 46 goals.

Brazil's women achieved their best-ever finish at a World Championships as they defeated Canada 7-2 in the bronze medal match.

The men's bronze medal went to Belgium, who defeated Paralympic champions Lithuania 9-2.
