Mozambique celebrated double gold in beach volleyball at the African Youth Games in Algiers.

Their women’s team were forced to come from a set down against Rwanda to secure the title in Algeria’s capital city.

Having lost the opener 23-21, Mozambique hit back to win the remaining sets 21-11, 15-7 to clinch the title.

The bronze medal was earned by Egypt, who overcame host nation Algeria in their playoff match.

Mozambique’s men’s team also clinched a gold medal after beating Ghana in straight sets in the final.

The podium was rounded off by Gambia, winners of the bronze medal match against Algeria.

The three top teams in both categories qualified for the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. 

The Games will take place in Argentina’s capital city from October 6 to 18.

Six sports of the 30 sports at the African Youth Games are offering Youth Olympic Games qualification.

This includes athletics, beach volleyball, hockey and rowing, along with archery and rugby.
