The London-based firm said its 25-year Private Pubic Partnership (PPP) scheme in Gloucester Park is the largest sports development in the Thames Gateway regeneration scheme.

Facilities will include an Olympic-sized 50-metre, eight-lane swimming pool with a viewing area for 450 people, an eight-court multi-purpose sports hall with retractable seating for 480 people, a fully-equipped gymnastics centre, a multi-purpose studio, a 100-workstation health and fitness suite and a climbing wall.

A Morgan Sindall subsidiary, Community Solutions for Leisure, is leading the scheme.

Construction work will be carried out by Morgan Ashurst and civil and structural engineering by Morgan Professional Services.

The scheme is scheduled to start on site next month and be completed in the spring of 2011.

Morgan Sindall chief executive Paul Smith said: “We are delighted to be the chosen partner to work with Basildon Council on this exciting project.”

The Village has been identified as a potential training camp for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympic Games and Basildon Council claim that several interested countries have approached them already, including Olympic superpower Russia.
