South Korea and Venezuela both picked up wins today to secure their places in the bronze medal game at the Under-23 Baseball World Cup in Colombia.

With the two teams playing their last super-round matches at the Edgar Renteria Baseball Stadium in Barranquilla, the South Koreans beat already-confirmed finalists Mexico 3-2 after Venezuela had defeated Chinese Taipei 4-3.

It sets up tomorrow's battle for third place, which will precede the gold medal game between Mexico and defending champions Japan.

South Korea were led by very consistent pitching today with starter Ryu Heewoon going 7.1 innings and allowing only two runs.

Reliever Yi Jungyong got the final five outs, allowing only one hit, and pinch hitter Choe Taeseong batted in the go-ahead runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Venezuela, meanwhile, had to come from 3-0 behind to overcome Chinese Taipei as pinch hitter Carlos Machado Acosta and Yoel Romero Rojas produced the two-out big hits for the win, in the seventh and eighth respectively.

Today's one other super-round clash saw Japan beat the Dominican Republic 4-0 to win an eighth straight game and head to the final undefeated.

Starter Kosuke Sakaguchi went seven innings, allowing only three hits and a walk, while striking out eight.

Atsuya Horie and Yu Suzuki took care of the last six outs.

There were also three consolation-round matches played today at the Estadio de Beisbol 18 de Junio in Montería.

Hosts Colombia sealed top spot in the group, and seventh place overall, with a fifth win in as many outings, defeating Czech Republic 12-2.

Puerto Rico finished second after overcoming The Netherlands 11-3, while Australia came third following a 9-4 victory over South Africa.
