USA Cricket, a new governing body established after the previous national organisation was expelled owing to governance issues in 2017, joins as the 93rd associate member of the ICC.

The move allows USA Cricket to gain a share of development funding, while it will also be able to sanction international and domestic cricket in the United States.

"This is truly an exciting day for USA Cricket and the entire US cricket community," said USA Cricket Board chair Paraag Marathe. 

"On behalf of the Board of Directors, I'd like to thank the ICC and their 104 other members for their trust in us and we'd also like to recognise the work of all the volunteers and staff who have dedicated so much time and effort to reach this historic day. 

"We realise the incredible responsibility that comes with this recognition and we are committed to working hard to be great stewards of the game both for the United States and global cricket."

The previous governing body for the sport in the US, the United States Cricket Association (USACA), was officially expelled in 2017.

It came after the USACA was suspended in 2015, the third time it had been blacklisted by the ICC since 2005.

Issues with governance, finance, reputation and cricketing activities were outlined as the reasons by the ICC.

But the worldwide organisation has now welcomed the country back into the fold after nearly two years in exile.

It follows the establishment of a transition plan, which saw the an ICC Americas regional support group run the sport while USA Cricket was set up.

"This is the culmination of a great deal of hard work and I would like to congratulate the chair of USA Cricket, Paraag Marathe, and the Board, on this important milestone and wish them all the very best for the future," said ICC chief executive David Richardson.
