The Israeli team appeared on course for victory in the final at Larry and Mary Greenspon Israel Tennis Centre, as Noam Gershony triumphed in the first match.

Gershony beat Japan’s Shota Kawano 6-0, 6-4, but the top seeds hit back immediately when Koji Sugeno won 6-2, 6-3 against Shraga Weinberg.

The match was left resting on the outcome of the doubles tie, with Sugeno and Mitsuteru Moroishi winning 6-4, 6-2 against Gershony and Weinberg to give Japan the title.

South Africa beat Britain 2-1 in the battle for third place.

Britain will play France for the men’s wheelchair title tomorrow, after both teams won their semi-finals against Japan (2-0) and Argentina (2-1), respectively.

The women’s final will see the Netherlands face Japan tomorrow.

The bronze medal match took place today, with Britain claiming a 2-0 win against South Africa.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
