World champions the Netherlands underlined their men’s team sprint victory over world silver medallists France at the World Cycling Track Championships earlier this year as they replicated that result, while Britain took bronze after a 0.735 seconds win over the Czech Republic.

The Dutch were ahead of France on the first time check and the second, before winning by a comfortable margin of 1.402sec.

The bronze medal match in the women's team sprint was between the teams who finished third and fourth fastest in the first round, Poland and the Netherlands.

Poland led early on but the Netherlands fought back to claim bronze.

The gold medal match, contested by Russia and Lithuania, saw the former ahead at the halfway point and at the finish, by 0.908sec.

The men’s scratch race went to Christos Volikakis of Greece.

He was pushed hard by Poland's Filip Prokopyszyn but Volikakis' wheel crossed first and soon he was punching the air in triumph.

Bronze went to Yauheni Karoliok of Belarus.

The women's points race went to Ukraine's Ganna Solovei, who produced a late charge that saw her lap the field to gain 20 points to snatch a total of 30 that moved her above Verena Eberhardt of Austria, who took silver with 27, and bronze medallist Jarmila Machacova of the Czech Republic.
