Their dominance was highlighted in the women's up to 52 kilogram event, where Dobi Koino Morea and Samantha Gware took gold and silver.

Morea achieved a lift of 145kg in the squat before efforts of 60kg and 140kg in the bench press and deadlift respectively.

It gave her a winning total of 345kg, with team-mate Gware finishing second on 330kg.

The podium was rounded off by Verana Olsson of Nauru.

Neville Benson had given Papua New Guinea a winning start to powerlifting by winning the women's up to 47kg competition with a total of 242.5kg.

She finished 10kg clear of Nauru's Ashly Detabouw, who placed second, and Benson's compatriot Lucy Dia in third.

Papua New Guinea's Belinda Umang and Dika Gahutu Igo then topped the podium in the women's up to 57kg and 63kg events respectively.

Their fifth women's title came in the up to 72kg competition, where Linda Pulsan fended off the challenge of Nauru's Jovina Fritz and Kiribati's Junior Erisabeth Kirata.

Kalau Andrew ensured Papua New Guinea's success was not limited to the women's competitions, earning the first men's gold on offer.

Andrew won the up to 59kg event ahead of his team-mate Martin Taitus, while Kiribati's Tibaa Zekielu Taabureia won bronze.

Nauru also enjoyed a fruitful day as their lifters clinched double gold, in addition to three silver and two bronze medals.

The men's 66kg crown was earned by Derby Rodiben, the lifter beating Kiribati's Nantei Nikora and Papua New Guinea's Ruben Noi John rounding off the podium.

Yurika Kepae then clinched the women's over 84 kilogram title, followed by her sister Giovika Kepae.

Bronze was earned by Moala Rachael Bob Sooalo-Toai of Samoa.

The host nation celebrated a gold medal in the women's up to 84kg category, where Niusila Opeloge emerged the winner.

The Samoan finished ahead of Papua New Guinea's Meteng Wak and Nauru's Perina Fritz.

There was success for Fiji as shooting competition continued at the Tafaigata Shooting Range, with a repeat of yesterday's double barrel podium in the single event.

The only change was the positioning of the medallists, with Fiji's Glenn Kable improving from his bronze medal.

Kable, the defending single barrel champion, was forced to win a shoot-off against yesterday's winner Franco Caffarelli of Samoa after they both scored 98 points.

Fiji ultimately celebrated gold by edging the home favourite.

Tahiti's Tuanua Degage added bronze to his silver from the double barrel event.

Tahiti were crowned winners of the team event, New Caledonia took silver and Samoa bronze.
