Veronika Vadovičová of Slovakia edged out Britain’s Matt Skelhon for gold in the mixed R3 10 metres air rifle at the World Shooting Para Sport World Cup in Croatian city Osijek.

Three-times Paralympic gold medallist Vadovičová racked up 254.7 points which proved enough to reach the top step of the rostrum.

Skelhon, who won Paralympic Games gold medal in mixed 10 metres air rifle prone at Beijing 2008, was just behind on 252.5, points with the United States’ Taylor Farmer sealing bronze with 230.9.

Slovakia’s Radoslav Malenovský was fourth on 210.2 points and Ukraine’s Yurii Stoiev managing 188.7 for fifth place.

Action is due to continue tomorrow and run until Tuesday (July 30).

This is the first Para competition to include rifle, pistol, trap and vision-impaired categories.
