New Zealand and China qualified teams for Tokyo 2020 after sealing the top two places at the International Equestrian Federation's (FEI) Olympic Group G Jumping Qualifier in The Netherlands.

The Kiwis won the six-nation event in Valkenswaard as their quartet of four-time Olympian Bruce Goodin, Samantha McIntosh, Tom Tarver-Priebe and Daniel Meech ended on 17 faults.

Both McIntosh, riding Check In, and Tarver-Priebe, on board Popeye, went clear second time around en-route to a comfortable victory over the Chinese team.

Yaofeng Li, You Zhang, Zhenqiang Li and Tongyan Liu ended on 47 faults in second place but they were still able to celebrate Olympic qualification.

"It's a huge thrill for us as we missed out on a team place at the last two Games but we came here with three experienced riders, and one newcomer in Tom who had never been on on team before at this level, so for him to come out with a clear in the second round was really something," said Goodin.

"I'm very proud of all our team and very thankful to Helena our Chef d'Equipe."

Hong Kong's Patrick Lam, Clarissa Lyra, Jacqueline Lai and Kenneth Cheng finished third with 58 faults and missed out on Tokyo.

"The Chinese team is going to the Olympics again as a team, it means we have improved a lot in the last 10 years and we will keep improving," said Li.

"I think this will motivate more and more people to join this amazing sport.

"We've been preparing for this for over a year."

Hosts Japan have qualified automatically for the Olympic team jumping with United States, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, The Netherlands and Australia booking their places through last year's World Equestrian Games in Tryon.

Israel, Ukraine, Brazil, Mexico and Canada have all come through regional events with other qualifiers due to be held in Europe and Africa.

One place is also available from the FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona in October.
