Sarah Prieels of Belgium broke the women's 60-arrow 18-metre compound ranking round world record at the World Archery Indoor Series event in Rome.

Prieels shot 597 out of a possible 600 points in qualification at the TRUBall/Axcel Roma Archery Trophy.

It marked the second time the world record has been broken in the last three weeks, after Ella Gibson scored 596 at the last Indoor Series competition in Luxembourg.

Prieels' performance saw her claim the top seeding in the women's compound event.

"I finished the first half with 120 points, so I thought it was possible but I was quite nervous," said Prieels, ranked 19th in the world.

"This is only the second 300 I’ve shot, so it felt really good."

In the men's compound, Dave Cousins and Kris Schaff of the United States, and Dutchman Mike Schloesser, ended on an identical total of 598 points.
