Led by captain Tiger Woods, the Americans won eight matches to complete a 16-14 triumph at Royal Melbourne Golf Club.

Woods led by example as he beat Mexican-American Abraham Ancer 3&2 in the opening match.

Dustin Johnson, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele and Patrick Reed, whose caddie was banned after pushing a spectator, also earned victories.

Two halved matches and a guaranteed half for Matt Kuchar were enough for the US to seal an eighth consecutive Presidents Cup title.

"We did it together," said Woods.

"We came here as a team."

Woods added: "My team mates and my boys all played well, the captains did an amazing job.

"It's been one of the more amazing challenges but all the guys, they believed in one another and relied on one another."

Reed, who was subjected to constant barracking during the tournament after he was penalised for improving his lie in the sand at the Hero World Challenge last weekend, beat Pan Cheng-tsung of Chinese Taipei 4&2.

"You make birdies, you don't hear much," said Reed.

"Early on this week, we didn't get up in our matches.

"If you get up in your match, the crowd will be pretty quiet. I was able to do that and silence a couple.

"The past couple days were tough, and today still wasn't easy."
