Russia won team gold on the final day of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) Women's Foil World Cup in Saint-Maur, France.

The Russian side edged past Italy 42-41 to top the podium at the Centre Sportif Pierre Brossolette, located in the French town just outside of Paris. 

Russia enjoyed more comfortable victories in the knockout stages, defeating Japan 40-21 and China 44-31. 

Their team featured top-seed Inna Deriglazova, who claimed bronze in yesterday's individual competition.

On the other side of the draw, the Italian team boasted the likes of Alice Volpi and Martina Batini, the individual gold and silver medallists, respectively.

They beat Hungary 45-28 in the last eight and Poland 45-33 in the semi-finals.

The bronze medal went to Japan after a 45-32 win over Hungary. 

The Women's Foil World Cup circuit continues in the Polish city of Katowice from January 10 to 12.
