Senegal's Sadio Mané and Nigeria's Asisat Oshoala have been heralded as Africa's finest footballers.

The pair were honoured at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards at the Albatros Citadel Sahl Hasheesh resort in Egyptian city Hurghada.

Mané was crowned the African Men's Player of the Year after polling 477 votes.

The 27-year-old winger finished ahead of Liverpool team mate and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah, who garnered 325 votes, and Manchester City's Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez, with 267 votes.

Mané helped Liverpool to the 2018-2019 UEFA Champions League title, scoring 26 goals in all competitions last season.

He has scored 15 goals so far in the 2019-2020 campaign, with Liverpool 13 points clear at the top of the English Premier League table.

"I'm very happy and proud to win this award," Mané, who collected the prize from CAF President Ahmad Ahmad, said.

"I thank my team mates at the Senegal national team and also my club, Liverpool, for their support."

Oshoala, meanwhile, was named African Women’s Player of the Year for the fourth time, equalling the record of her fellow Nigerian Perpetua Nkwocha.

The forward helped Barcelona to a runners-up finish in Spain's Primera División last season.

She also reached the UEFA Women's Champions League final with the Catalan giants, scoring her side's only goal in their 4-1 defeat to Lyon.

Furthermore, Oshoala was a key player for Nigeria at last year's FIFA Women's World Cup in France, helping the Super Falcons to a round-of-16 finish.

She garnered 351 votes, 30 more than Valerenga and Cameroon forward Ajara Nchout.

Beijing BG Phoenix and South Africa forward Thembi Kgatlana finished third with 247 votes.

The 28th edition of the CAF Awards celebrated African footballers and officials who distinguished themselves during 2019.

Algeria's Youcef Belaili won the African Interclubs Player of the Year prize following his stellar performances for Espérance de Tunis in winning the CAF Champions League.

The African Youth Player of the Year went to Morocco right-back Achraf Hakimi, who plays for Borussia Dortmund on loan from Real Madrid.

Djamel Belmadi, who guided Algeria to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, and Desiree Ellis, who led South Africa at their first FIFA Women’s World Cup, picked up the African Men's and Women's Coach of the Year awards, respectively.

It is the second consecutive victory for Ellis.

Cameroon were recognised as the African Women's National Team of the Year after reaching the round-of-16 at the FIFA Women's World Cup, with AFCON winners Algeria taking the Men's National Team of the Year gong.

Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o partnered Egyptian Mariam Amin as presenters at the ceremony, assisted by Moroccan Fayrouz Al Karawani.

Egypt's Minister of Sport Ashraf Sobhy was among the special guests.
