Athletes have headed to the French Alps for three-day event, which will begin with men’s and women’s skeleton competition tomorrow.

Germany’s Olympic silver medallist Jacqueline Lölling will hope to extend her lead at the top of the women’s World Cup standings.

Lölling triumphed in the opening event of the season and will look to return to winning ways as the eight-competition series reaches the halfway point.

Austria’s Janine Flock is currently second in the standings.

She may have an advantage over her rivals as the Austrian is the only athlete in the top 10 to have competed at La Plagne before.

Latvia’s Martins and Tomass Dukurs have shared the podium with Russia’s Alexander Tretiakov the last three times the IBSF World Cup has visited France.

Martins Dukurs won each of the races, which were held in 2011, 2012 and 2015.

The trio will look for further success at the venue as they aim to close the gap to current World Cup leader Axel Jungk of Germany.

United States’ Kaillie Humphries has won two of the last three two-woman bobsleigh events at the venue.

The World Cup leader and Sochi 2014 Olympic champion will look to extend her strong start since switching allegiance from Canada to the United States on Saturday (January 11).

Two-man competition will take place on the same day with Germany’s Francesco Friedrich currently heading the standings.

The German bobsleigh pilot will also aim to extend his lead in the four-man competition on Sunday (January 12), when action draws to a close.
