Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway retook the led in the overall International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing World Cup standings, after a fourth-place finish in the Swiss village of Adelboden.

The giant slalom world champion was unable to top the podium at Chuenisbärgli, finishing in 2min 28.54sec alongside Victor Muffat-Jeandet of France.

But it was enough to see Kristoffersen back on top of the standings, with 531 points.

He surpassed compatriot Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who came fifth and is now 12 points back, with Alexis Pinturault on 501.

The Frenchman had been struggling with a stomach bug in the run-up to the event, eventually recording a 10th place finish.

Zan Kranjec of Slovenia was the gold medallist in 2:27.90, while Filip Zubcic of Croatia earned silver in 2:28.19.

Competition continues tomorrow with the slalom event.
