Double Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin will be looking to bounce back from recent disappointment when she competes in the slalom event at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing World Cup in Austrian village Flachau tomorrow.

The 24-year-old American failed to finish her first run in the Alpine combined event in the Austrian resort of Altenmarkt-Zauchensee yesterday.

But she is raring to make up for that, tweeting earlier today that she "can't wait until tomorrow night".

Shiffrin currently leads the women's overall and slalom FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup standings.

She has a total of 826 points, 380 of which have been won in slalom events.

In the overall standings, Italy’s Federica Brignone, the Alpine combined event winner in Altenmarkt-Zauchensee, is in second place with 565 points.

Occupying third spot with 513 points is Slovakia's Petra Vlhová, who is Shiffrin's closest challenger in the slalom standings with 260, ahead of Austria's Katharina Liensberger with 186.

Last year, Vlhová won the slalom event in Flachau with Shiffrin and Liensberger completing the top three.
