Nikoloz Kakhelashvili of Italy triumphed at the United World Wrestling Ranking Series event in Rome.

Kakhelashvili featured in one of five Greco-Roman finals at Centro Olimpico Matteo Pellicone, topping the podium in the 97 kilogram division.

He edged past Felix Baldauf of Norway 5-4.

"I’m so happy that I won in my country," Kakhelashvili said. 

"Today was a big tournament. 

"I think it’s good that I won, and I felt very strong. 

"Now I hope to win the European Championships."

Melonin Noumonvi of France and Gangelo Hancock of the United States won the bronze medals.

Viktor Lőrincz of Hungary then won his sixth career Ranking Series title, securing a 2-1 victory over Kumar Sunil of India in the 87kg final.

Bronze medals went to Ali Cengiz of Turkey and Luis Avendano Rojas of Venezuela. 

Sailike Walihan of China narrowly defeated Islomjon Bakhramov of Uzbekistan 4-3 to win 60kg gold, with compatriot Tuo Erbatu and Firuz Tukhtaev of Uzbekistan taking bronze. 

Uzbekistan had more success in the 67kg, won by Makhmud Bakhsilloev after he beat Abouhalima Abouhalima of Egypt 3-1.

Qiye Tian of China and Anthony Palencia Puentes of Venezuela won bronze medals.

Abdellatif Mohamed of Egypt was the winner in the 130kg following a fall by Moises Perez Hellburg of Venezuela. 

Linghze Meng of China and Muminjon Abdullaev of Uzbekistan completed the podium.
