England's Nick Brett and Wales' Marion Purcell have been crowned the mixed pairs champions at the World Indoor Bowls Championships in Norfolk.

The duo beat England's Greg Harlow and Guernsey's Alison Merrien 7-6, 8-7 at Potters Leisure Resort's International Arena.

All four players had won the title in previous years, with different partners.

Brett partnered Scotland's Claire Johnston to success in 2017, while Purcell and England's Robert Paxton triumphed two years earlier.

Victory for Brett comes a day after he teamed up with Harlow to win the open pairs final.

Competition also continued today in the open singles event.

Among the three players advancing to the quarter-finals was Paxton, who defeated fellow Englishman Jamie Chestney 7-6, 7-4.

Also progressing was England's Les Gillett after he overcame six-time champion Alex Marshall of Scotland 8-3, 11-4.

Standing between him and a place in the semi-finals is Scotland's David Gourlay, a 15-0, 7-5 victor at the expense of compatriot Michael Stepney.

Action in Norfolk is due to continue tomorrow, with the women's singles semi-finals and a further two second-round matches in the open singles event.
