Italy's Olympic champion Fabio Basile topped the podium at the International Judo Federation (IJF) Tel Aviv Grand Prix.

The 25-year-old claimed the Olympic gold medal in the men's under-66 kilogram at Rio 2016 and today triumphed in the under-73kg at the Israeli city's Shlomo Arena.

He defeated Ferdinand Karapetian of Armenia in the final, with Martin Hojak of Slovenia and Nils Stump of Switzerland finishing with bronze medals.

Aslan Lappinagov of Russia was the winner in the men's under-81kg, overcoming Alexios Ntanatsidis of Greece in the final.

Bronze medals went to Eduardo Yudy Santos of Brazil and Luka Maisuradze of Georgia.

In the women's contests, Sally Conway of Britain topped the under-70kg podium.

Conway, the Olympic and world bronze medallist, beat Kim Seong-yeon of South Korea in the final. 

Both Kelita Zupancic of Canada and Ai Tsunoda Roustant of Spain finished with bronze medals.

Katharina Haecker of Australia won the under-63kg, with Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard of Canada the silver,

Completing the podium was Renata Zachová of the Czech Republic and Martyna Trajdos of Germany. 

Action is due to conclude tomorrow with the women's under-78kg and over-78kg contests, and the men's under-90kg, under-100kg and over-100kg.
