Japan will be represented in both the men's and women's singles finals at the Australian Open Wheelchair Tennis Championships after today's last four clashes.

Top men's seed Shingo Kunieda defeated Britain's Alfie Hewett 6-3, 6-3 in his last four contest at Melbourne Park.

He will now play another Briton in the final after Gordon Reid saw off Belgium's Joachim Gerard 6-4, 7-5.

Kunieda has won the Australian Open nine times, including five victories in a row from 2007 to 2011.

His last success was in Melbourne in 2018, while Reid won the 2016 tournament.

In the women's event, Japan's second seed Yui Kamiji booked her place in Japan by beating South Africa's Kgothatso Montjane 6-3, 7-5.

Kamiji is looking to reclaim the title she won in 2017.

She will now play Dutch player Aniek van Koot in the final after the 2013 champion knocked out China's Zhenzhen Zhu.

Zhu is the first Chinese player to contest a wheelchair Grand Slam and knocked out back-to-back defending champion and top seed Diede de Groot yesterday.

She could find no way past her second Dutch opponent, however, as Van Koot came from behind to win 1-6, 6-0, 6-4.

In the quad singles round-robin, Australia's home star Dylan Alcott made it two wins from two as he beat Britain's world number one Andy Lapthorne 7-5, 6-1.

Alcott is hoping to win a sixth consecutive Australian Open title.

American David Wagner claimed a first win by beating Australian Heath Davidson 6-2, 6-3.

Davidson did have something to cheer when he teamed up with Alcott to win the quads doubles final against Lapthorne and Wagner, 6-4, 6-3.

It was the third consecutive title for the Australian pair.

The finals were also decided in the men's and women's doubles events.

France's top men's seeds Nicolas Peifer and Stephane Houdet beat Gerard and Australian Ben Weekes 6-3, 6-4 to book their spot.

They will play second seeds Reid and Hewett after their 7-6, 3-6, 10-5 win over Kunieda and Gustavo Fernandez of Argentina.

Fernandez was the defending men's singles champion but was beaten by Reid yesterday.

Dutch top seeds De Groot and Van Koot won their women's doubles semi-final 6-3, 6-3 against compatriot Marjolein Buis and Zhu.

They will play Kamiji and Britain's Jordanne Whiley, who beat second seeds Montjane and Germany's Sabine Ellerbrock 6-1, 6-4.
