Poland have been suspended by the World Curling Federation for breaching the constitution

Poland have been suspended by the World Curling Federation for breaching the Federation's constitution relating to its governance and disputes with the country's Ministry of Sport.

A member association since 2002, the nation have, according to the WCF, breached section 6.6.2.3 of 'bringing the sport into disrepute'.

A statement from WCF reads, "Since 2017, the World Curling Federation has made numerous requests to the Polish Curling Association to resolve issues relating to its governance structures and disputes with the Ministry of Sport in Poland.

"However, failure to take reasonable steps to resolve these concerns has resulted in this action."

No curling team representing the nation can enter any future WCF events and no official representatives can attend WCF-organised meetings until the suspension is lifted.

The men's team represented their nation in the top tier of European curling for the first time in 2018, facing relegation back down to the B-division that season and narrowly missing promotion back up in 2019 while the women's team were relegated to the C-division.

However, the Polish men's team will be allowed to compete at the World Senior Curling Championships in Kelowna in Canada in April.

The same applies to the women's team who are entered for the European Curling Championships C-Division in the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana in May.

Further action will be considered at the world body's Annual General Assembly on September 6 in Saint Petersburg in Russia, if necessary.
