Australia batted first and had an impressive score of 319-8 after 50 overs, with the top score belonging to Liam Scott who hit 10 fours and a six in making 66 runs.

However, team-mate Cooper Connolly had the best strike rate of the day - 120.75 - as he made 64 runs from 53 balls, with four fours and two sixes.

The total was Australia's biggest in the tournament this year, but a defeat to West Indies in their first group match would be their downfall. 

With West Indies on 62-1 after only 12 overs, rain came and no more play was possible, not allowing the game to be decided by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method which requires each side to bat 20 overs.

That meant fifth place would go to the team who performed better in the group stage - with three wins from three games including one over Australia, that was the Windies.

The third-place playoff will take place tomorrow, with the final set for Sunday (February 9).
