Alim Maluf Neto has been re-elected for a second term as President of International University Sports Federation (FISU) America.

The Brazilian will now serve for another four years until 2024.

He was returned unopposed at the Pan American University Sports Seminar, which took place at the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) auditorium in Rio de Janeiro.

"I now have a much greater responsibility to follow this development of FISU America, in our continent, and to further strengthen the global university sports movement," said Neto.

Manuel Merodio from Mexico was elected as vice president and America Alvarado from Honduras will serve as secretary.

Argentina's Ines Gomes was chosen as treasurer with Costa Rica's Gerardo Corrales, Uruguay's Alfredo Inciarte, Colombia's Fred Asprilla and Venezuela's Leonardo Morales elected as advisers.

All of the officials elected will take a seat on the FISU America Executive Committee.

Their new terms until 2024 include a Winter University Games in the Americas – in Lake Placid in the United States in 2023.

The Seminar was co-organised by FISU, FISU America and the Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (CBDU).

Sixteen countries from the Americas were represented.

Carlos César Drobiniche Lombardi, a general coordinator for sport and education in Brazil, and a member of the Ministry of Citizenship, was among those to attend, alongside COB President Paulo Wanderley.

"We understand that sport is an integral educational tool in the training of people," Lombardi said. 

"College sports come just after high school and we think the continuity is important. 

"We intend to be present at university sports events together with CBDU."
