National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) President Alfred Foloko was present as 188 trees were planted at Olympic Youth Development Centre Zambia (OYDC Zambia).

The trees were donated by Rotary Club of Maluba.

As an organisation, NOCZ is committed to achieving sustainable development goals, said Foloko.

He pointed out that every athlete at OYDC Zambia receives education on environmental issues.

A speech was also read out on behalf of Lusaka Mayor Miles Sampa in which he urged others to follow the Rotary Club's example.

He claims to be committed to making Zambia's capital eco-friendly.

Tribal Federation of Zambia President Dickson Jere was also in attendance, as were officials from the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The WWF and OYDC Zambia have been working in partnership to spread the conservation message to schools and communities.

OYDC Zambia provides opportunities for sporting and community development to young people across the country.

The centre hosts competitions and camps for young people and offers programmes to help coaches and administrators, as well as community services including education and health services.

The centre's sustainable development goals include organising "environment-related competitions in sports" and "implementing models for sport compatible with nature and the environment".

"Anchoring environmental communication more firmly in the work of associations and clubs and in the dialogue with broad sections of the population" is another of the development goals.
