Vincent Kriechmayr delighted the Austrian crowd with a Super-G victory at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Skiing World Cup in Hinterstoder.

It was Kriechmayr's second Super-G victory of the season, with the 28-year-old recording a time of 1min 33.08sec to triumph.

"I am very satisfied with my skiing today and being able to win in front of an incredible crowd is simply amazing," said Kriechmayr.

Mauro Caviezel of Switzerland was close to the first World Cup victory of his career, but finished just 0.05 seconds off the mark to take second place.

There was more joy for Austria when Matthias Mayer finished third in 1:33.16.

Despite never winning, Caviezel tops the Super-G standings with 365 points, followed by Kriechmayr on 362 and Aleksander Aamodt Kilde of Norway on 336.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with another Super-G race and an alpine combined contest.
