Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) are reportedly considering whether or not to resume play following a break enforced by the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

The top league began on January 12, with six rounds played.

It was then announced that the final two rounds would be suspended following the outbreak of coronavirus in Japan.

The JRFU will now decide whether or not to resume play as scheduled on Saturday (March 14), or delay the league's restart, as reported by Kyodo News

The situation has been made more difficult due to the current season being shortened to allow players time to recover from last year's Rugby World Cup in Japan, making it harder to reschedule matches.

Coronavirus has wreaked havoc to the global sporting calendar, with the Japanese Government asking for events attracting large crowds to be suspended until Sunday (March 15).

Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic test events have been scaled back in response, with a climbing event at Aomi Urban Sports Park taking place last week without any athletes.

Japan's J-League has postponed matches while Nippon Professional Baseball has been playing pre-season games behind closed doors.

There have now been more than 111,000 cases of coronavirus since the outbreak originated in Chinese city Wuhan.

Just under 4,000 people have died and more than 110 countries and territories are affected, but the overwhelming majority of cases are in China.

Japan has recorded more than 500 cases and seven people have died.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) have reiterated their commitment to holding Tokyo 2020 as planned.

IOC President Thomas Bach said the organisation remains "very confident" of a successful Olympics in the Japanese capital.

The Games are due to take place between July 24 and August 9.
