Sweden's Sara Rask took gold in the women's giant slalom at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Narvik in Norway after two quick runs left her firmly in front.

Rask topped the standings after the first run and extended it on run two to finish with a time of 2min 04.91sec, with a 0.48 second gap back to silver medallist, Neja Dvornik.

The Slovenian had the quickest second run, closing the gap to the leader by 0.05 seconds and in the process, moving herself from fifth to second.

Norway's Kaja Norbye held on to a medal having been Rask's closest competitor after run one, falling behind Dvornik on run two with a big gap back to fourth place Sweden's Hanna Aronsson Elfman.

Austria currently lead the race for the Marc Hodler Trophy, given to the best performing nation on 87 points, despite struggling in the women's giant slalom.

Norway are far behind with four events to go on 42 with Sweden moving into third after a top result for the nation.
