Organisers unveiled the logo for the Zhangjiakou 2021 Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships in an online ceremony.

The decision was taken to move the ceremony online due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The logo for the event in China was designed by the Tsinghua University’s Academy of Arts and Design.

Three mountains are included on the logo to symbolise Zhangjiakou City, while two snowflakes also feature.

The gold snowflake is claimed to represent the Yunding ski field, with the blue standing for the Shougang Industrial Park in Beijing.

Both venues will host competition during the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Great Wall of China is also depicted on the logo.

"Today is an important landmark for the Zhangjiakou 2021 championships, with the launch of the official logo, that really resembles exactly what these championships are all about,” said Sarah Lewis, International Ski Federation secretary general, according to China Global Television Network.

“The Zhangjiakou 2021 FIS Freestyle Ski and Free Ski Snowboard World Championships is the first-ever event of this level to be organised in China.

“We are convinced that this will be the start of many such events in the future, will be a tremendous catalyst for the growth of winter sports in China, and a perfect showcase for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games, for the athletes, for the sports.”

Competitions at the World Championships will take place at three venues - Secret Garden, Zhangjiakou and Shougang.

Each will also be used at the Winter Olympics in 2022.

The World Championships will take place from February 8 to 28.
