International Luge Federation (FIL) has announced the postponement of their Summer Cup competition in Zwickau.

The event had been scheduled to take place from May 7 to 10 at the German venue.

The FIL have confirmed the Summer Cup will move to 2021, following concerns over the coronavirus pandemic.

A letter was written by organisers ESV Lokomotive Zwickau to all participants.

“Due to the current situation regarding the coronavirus COVID-19, we are not able to hold this event on the scheduled date,” the letter read.

“This happens to secure the health of all our volunteers.

“We want to do our part to avoid the expansion of this disease as well.”

The vent would have taken place on the Zwickau track, which is composed of plastic parts.

The luge track is considered to be one of the most frequently used in the world, due to its all-year round use.

Countries are subsequently taking action to halt the spread of coronavirus.

This has included the cancellation and postponement of sporting events and lockdowns.
