Sweden's Anders Byström has been named the new coach of the nation's cross-country skiing team, after a year as the national team manager for the Swedish Biathlon Association.

Byström, who competed in cross-country when he was a youngster, began coaching in 2008 and became part of the Swedish Ski Association as education manager in 2009.

He said in a statement: "I have had a good year with the biathlon team and have enjoyed working with all talented employees and active there, but cross-country skiing is my sport so I was very pleased with the offer of work with the cross-country team."

After five years with Swedish Ski Association, he joined the Norwegian Ski Association and coached the national team for five years.

Sweden's team manager, Daniel Fåhræus, added: "From a leadership perspective, Anders possesses the experience, knowledge and skills needed to take on the role.

"We have a consistent leadership philosophy and I am confident that we will be a good team.

"He has also worked as a journalist for some time, which can be helpful in his work as national team manager for an adapted national team."

Byström will take up his new post as the national team manager on May 1 but will plan for the upcoming season ahead of that date.
