The UIAA is searching for Presidential candidates to succeed Frits Vrijlandt ©UIAA

The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) has extended the deadline to nominate Presidential candidates until the middle of May.

With a replacement needed for Frits Vrijlandt, whose second and final term will end in October, the nomination deadline has been moved from April 15 to May 15.

Nominations are sent to the Temporary Nomination Committee (TNC), which has been asked to search for and propose candidates.

Nominees do not need permission from their federation to apply and should send a CV and motivation letter to a TNC email address

The UIAA Articles of Association (AoA) dictate a President may only serve two terms.

Vrijlandt became UIAA President in 2012.

It is planned for the election of the new President to take place on October 24, with the electing body being the UIAA General Assembly.

The TNC will act confidentially and names of potential candidates will not be published.

Only selected and nominated candidates will be officially announced.

May 15 is a TNC deadline for potential candidates who - after the assessment process - might be interested in being officially nominated by their Federations ahead of the 14 August AoA deadline.

Away from the Presidential election, the UIAA has created the COVID-19 Crisis Consultation Committee in order to react quickly to the pandemic's developments.
