A giant bust of the late two-time Paralympic powerlifting champion Siamand Rahman has been unveiled in his hometown of Oshnavieh in Iran.

Rahman died at the age of 32 on March 1, after suffering a heart attack.

The Iranian clinched gold at the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

He broke the men's over 107 kilograms category world record with a lift of 310kg at the latter Games.

The achievement justified his billing as the "world’s strongest Paralympian".

He also topped the podium at the last three Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, Incheon and Jakarta.

Rahman had been preparing to earn his third consecutive Paralympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020, having been part of a visual campaign promoting the Games last year.

Members of the Oshnavieh City Council were also present.

The bust is located at the entrance to the town and lists achievements Rahman made in his career.
