The United States Olympic and Paralympic Museum (USOPM) has revealed its new logo to coincide with its planned opening in Colorado Springs this year.

It features five diagonal stripes in the colours of the Olympic rings, as well as the silhouette of a diamond which represents the museum's exterior, which is formed of more than 9,000 diamond metal panels.

On Twitter, the USOPM showed the new logo and said: "New look, same legacy".

The Museum will have dedicated rooms and galleries for the Summer Olympic Games, Winter Olympic Games, the evolution of sports technology and more.

The cost of the Museum is reported to be $90 million (£74 million/€83 million) and it will open nearly six years after the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee signed a deal in July 2014 for the facility to be built in the city where it is headquartered.

Architects Diller Scofidio + Renfro designed the museum, which had a planned opening date of May 31 before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Features will include the ability to race against some of the country's greatest athletes, including 1936 Olympic sprinter Jesse Owens and wheelchair athlete Tatyana McFadden.

There will be six interactive activities in the building, including an archery exhibit that tests precision and accuracy.

Tommy Schield, the Museum's marketing and communications director, told KKTV 11 News of the importance of USOPM.

"Team USA athletes work their entire lives for that moment to represent the US on the world's largest stage and those are the stories we get to tell and those are the stories we get to share," he said.

"The Olympic and Paralympic Games have the power to unite, and that's what this Museum does."
