The premiere of a documentary celebrating the centenary of the New Zealand Olympic team has been postponed because of COVID-19 restrictions in the country.

The New Zealand Olympic Committee's (NZOC) "One Fern. One Hundred Years" film had been due to be premiered today.

But the premiere has been delayed after a three-day lockdown was imposed in Auckland following four new COVID-19 cases being recorded in the city.

Confirmation of the new cases ended New Zealand's 102-day streak without a local infection.

"Though disappointing, we know you will understand the circumstances and we look forward to gathering together to celebrate 100 years of Olympic pride in the near future," the NZOC said.

The NZOC added it would still mark the 100-year anniversary of New Zealand competing at their first Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 tomorrow.

New Zealand has sent athletes to every Summer Olympics since the event in Antwerp.

The country has also competed at most Winter Olympics held since 1952, missing both the 1956 and 1964 Games.

New Zealand has won a total of 120 Olympic medals – 117 at the Summer Games and three at the Winter Games.
