The European Women's Handball Championship will go ahead this year in Norway and Denmark, organisers have announced.

Competition is scheduled to take place between December 3 and 20 with coronavirus restrictions in place.

Norway, which is scheduled to host the semi-finals and final, has opted to stage all of its matches at the Trondheim Spektrum.

This is in order to "minimise infection risk, expenses and travel for competing teams and officials", the European Handball Federation said.

Trondheim was originally due to only host matches in the preliminary round but it will now also host main round matches, the semi-finals and final.

Games will no longer be played at Oslo's Telenor Arena, the previous venue for the final and semi-finals, or the Stavanger Idrettshall.

It is planned that 200 fans will be able to watch each match in Trondheim.

Both of the planned venues in Denmark will continue to be a part of the event – the Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning and Arena Nord in Frederikshavn.

Denmark currently allows 500 fans into arenas, although the Danish federation is working hard to potentially increase this number.

Sixteen countries are due to compete at the event, with France aiming to defend the title they won in 2018.

Tickets are now on sale in Denmark with details for Norway due to follow.
