The panel was established in May and has been led and moderated by FIL sports director Maria-Luise Rainer.

Its aim has been to draw up coronavirus countermeasures that can be implemented uniformly across all FIL events, but the ever-changing health situation makes it difficult to predict what will and will not be safe in the coming months.

"Unfortunately, the framework conditions change frequently," Rainer said.

"As a result, reliable and long-term forecasts are not possible in the COVID-19 pandemic time.

"Planning uncertainties and risk remain.

"The greatest responsibility lies with each individual.

"The preventative measures apply as well as acting independently and treating each other with respect."

Artificial track technical director Christian Eigentler and FIL executive director Christoph Schweiger have also taken part in Working Group video calls.

As the FIL hygiene officer, Schweiger will monitor whether teams and events are being compliant with the rules during the coming season.

Thomas Schwab, the FIL's vice-president for marketing, was responsible for creating the protection and hygiene concept.

"The second version of the FIL protection and hygiene concept was developed in collaboration with Professor Ulrike Protzer, the director at the Institute for Virology at the Technical University in Munich," Schwab said.

"We are glad that we had such competent support."

Changes have been made to the 2020-2021 calendar in recent weeks, with the FIL moving the 2021 Luge World Championships from Whistler in Canada to Königssee in Germany as a consequence of the pandemic and a World Cup in Lake Placid in the United States also relocated to Germany.
