Martin and Valent Sinković remain in contention to defend their men’s pairs title after reaching the final at the European Rowing Championships in Polish city Poznan.

The Croatian brothers, who are also the reigning world champions, came out on top in their semi-final, finishing in 6min 31.22sec.

Matteo Lodo and Giuseppe Vicino of Italy worked their way through the field but were unable to overhaul the Sinković siblings.

The Italians will contest the final along and so too Danish duo Frederic Vystavel and Joachim Sutton who came third.

Marius-Vasile Cozmiuc and Ciprian Tudosa of Romania won the other semi-final in 6:27.87 after an impressive final sprint.

Teams from Spain and The Netherlands also secured places in tomorrow’s final.

In the men’s four, the Dutch made a strong start to the first semi-final only for defending champions Poland to take the lead in the third quarter of the race and clinch the victory in 5:53.75.

The second semi-final was won by the Italians in 5:54.21 after taking their rating up to 40 strokes per minute to beat the Austrians.
